What is the meaning of life? To some, it’s just going through the motions and not taking chances, but not this group of young South Florida teens. They are poised to make a name for themselves, either one way, or another. As time prevails throughout his fast paced teenage life, he encounters new comrades and troubling obstacles in an attempt to reach lofty street & life goals, but with the help of his friends, triumph is only a basket, a bullet, & a robbery away. A lengthy prison sentence steals his short lived teenage years away and forces him to grow up even faster, but now in a different way & setting. This time away enables him to devise an even brighter plot for street domination!

About the author

D

errick Devon Griffin is an American black male, indie fiction creative writing author and father of three beautiful children. His eldest daughters name is Rae ‘Anna and the youngest ones name is Ja`Tasia. His only son is the middle child and is named Elijah. Mr. Griffin was born March 11, 1981 in Fort Lauderdale, FL at Broward General Medical Center to parents Bebbie L. Griffin and Derrick D. Simmons both of whom met in ‘The Sunshine State’ of South Florida. His mother still resides in Broward County, and his dad lives in Fayetteville, NC. His mom is originally from Lake City, FL and his dad is from Newark, NJ. His dad is also of twin descent. Although an only child to his mother, he has a sister named Leslie Melvin through his dad. Derrick began writing as an outlet and a hobby to escape the pressures of not being in his natural habitat. While being incarcerated, he began to understand his talent and true calling. Upon being released, he decided to take his writing talent as a full time job. Before taking his writing to the next level he knew he had talent while attending Broward Community College. “Teachers would always tell me that my papers that I turned in were excellent, thus giving me an A in English (Chesum) This was when I took notice that I had some valuable creative talent”. After a very turbulent period during his later years due to drugs and run-ins with the law that led to a prison stint in Florida Department of Corrections, Mr. Griffin began to hone his talents while behind the prison walls. He has grown to become a model citizen and a brilliant creative writing talent. This is the first release of the many titles that will soon follow “Street Cred”. He is also currently engaged in a few screenplay submissions for some hopeful movie adaptations. “It’s been a long journey to where I am now, but I know that that road still has many more miles that stretch very far. So the only thing for me to do, is to keep traveling it and to let it take me as far as I can go”.
